Kirstie Alley 2011

Dancing with the Stars season debut was lackluster. Ralph Macchio was excellent, considering his martial arts training, this was no wonder. Boxer Sugar Ray Leonard’s performance was surprising considering his boxing experience. I expected more from him. Kirstie Alley’s performance was excellent. Her energy was phenomenal, footwork excellent, and glowed the entire show with an effervescent smile that was contagious.

After her debut on Tuesday, George Lopez took an easy shot, albeit a deliberately well worded cut on the former hefty star, saying Kirstie, “did a nice job, her little hooves tapping away. Before she went to the market, and then she had roast beef and this is her going all the way home”. Then they cut to a clip of the Geico commercial of the pig riding in the mini-van with the pinwheel.

Beyond all the apologies and the Tweet battle amongst the two of them, Kirstie you have to understand that comedians (and media in general) make fun of popular people because they either bad, we admire them, fear or respect them. Consider it as a tribute Kirstie! Yes, I said popular. Your popular again Kirstie!! This was the reason that you got on DWTS? Right? So you have been fodder for jokes for years with your well publicized weight issues. Thank goodness that Kirstie is not going to be eliminated from DWTS early or there would have been jokes like “Kirstie would have lasted longer in a buffet line”. Kirstie Alley, I am thoroughly fascinated with you at this point. I loved you on Cheers and you are really bringing “it” to the DWTS stage, and you are my front runner.
Even all this said, If George Lopez had not done such a well constructed chop at you then I still would have done some digs on stage in my comedy. But still if you are part of pop culture, you are subject to being at the butt of jokes. I have been decimated by a host, after my first appearance at The World Famous Comedy Store’s Original room. I had a panic attack, as I was going on stage and did my jokes well but was hyperventilating. Tony Hinchecliffe, an excellent comedian, gave me props then destroyed me. “I have to give him credit for his writing, but when he should have been waiting on his punchlines, he was (mimicking me hyperventilating) He is like if Will Ferrell and a leprechaun had a baby” (I have curly hair). I took it as a big compliment.

Kirstie Alley was a little rough in her treatment of George Lopez with the comment on taking back his kidney. I would not have made the comment and it surprised me that someone with such a self deprecating personality took the rip from George so personal. Like I said, we make fun of those we love, and considering the joke, then continual attempts at apology and large bouquets of flowers delivered to you; George might have a thing for you. Consider the hooves remark to be the proverbial grade school ‘pigtail in the ink well’. Considering George Lopez might like big girls, he probably just wants to get with your bigger former self.
